Are You Considering Getting a Japan Rail Pass?

If you are here, I take it you’ve decided to check Japan off your bucket list and have a trip of a lifetime. There is no better way to get around Japan than by train. They are fast, spacious, clean and unbelievably prompt. The average delay of a bullet train in Japan is just matter of seconds! Seconds!! Can you imagine? Where else in the world would any type of public transport be so prompt?!

To save yourself a lot of money and headache of trying to buy individual tickets go for the pass. We did and it was the best decision we could have made. You can buy 7, 14, or 21 day passes. We spent three weeks in Japan and the 14-day pass worked out perfectly for us. We travelled from Tokyo to Kyoto to Hiroshima and back and not to mention various day trips and all we had to do is flash our pass and be on our way.

Here’s Rhonda from Travel? Yes Please!  to answer some questions on why you should consider a rail pass.

“As first time visitors to Japan, I wanted our experience to be as stress-free as possible. That’s what led us to buy the Japan Rail Pass. We felt comfortable knowing we wouldn’t have to deal with ticket machines or the language barrier at ticket offices. We could just show our pass, hop on a train and go.”

And one of my favorite digital nomad blogs out there, The Never Ending Voyage, goes in depth on why the Japan Rail Pass is worth it. And we totally agree!

“Travelling by train is one of the things we love most about Japan. There’s an extensive network, the trains are spacious and comfortable, and they always run on time (we even made a one-minute connection!).”

Here’s one more to get you convinced that getting a Rail Pass is certainly worth it.

Sabrina from Just One Way Ticket  gives an excellent comparison on what individual tickets would cost and how much you would save by buying a JR Pass.

“Is the Japan Rail Pass worth it?

Definitely. Now that we have made everything clear, let’s delve deeper into the big question – Is the Japan Rail Pass worth it? Starting with some simple calculations, we can conclude that you will be saving around ¥ 10,000 just on public transportation in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, including the airport express from Narita Airport in Tokyo.”
