It’s Iceland’s national holiday today and we thinks the whole population of Iceland is in Reykjavik to celebrate! They have tons of activities setup around Lake Tjörnin. We just happened to be walking around the city and decided to go check out the lake and saw a parade of old cars making their way along the lake, multiple bouncy castles, and vendors of all kinds.
As we were trying to get around the crowd of people in one spot, we came across the strong man contest! These guys were massive and the amount of weight they were carrying was pretty darn impressive.
We finished the walk around the lake at the city hall which is very nice modern building. Tourists are allowed to walk in and explore. There was a concert setup for the National Holiday celebrations inside.
We did some more meandering around the city and made our way to the the most famous hot dog spot in town, Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur. The hot-dogs did not disappoint.
Since my headache had decided to come along for a walk with us today, we finished our day and went back to the apartment. Nap for me, work for Bruce and video games for Kasm.
We all did manage to get out for another walk after supper. Some more meandering through Reykjavik streets and along the water. Kasm even made a new friend.
Tomorrow we pick up our rental car and head out to Snæfellsnes peninsula. I imagine we will have tons of photos to share.
Ben says “that is awesome! I wish I was with you! I’m so jealous!”
Beautiful pictures, I will show all of this to Marie. She will be impressed!
