I’ve been to a decent amount of pubs in my time – love them so much that I owned part of one for a few years. When I walk into a place, look around and think ‘holy cow – this is one weird joint’, you know it’s going to be off the wall. The Szimpla Pub in Budapest is one of the wackiest I’ve seen.
If you want a beer in Budapest (which is a pretty awesome town by the by), head over to the Szimpla, known as a Ruins Pub. What they do is simply find an abandoned space and fill it to the rafters will oddities. The vibe is quite eclectic. There was a dead PC room with a pile of 90s computers & screens hanging from the ceiling (sorry pics were too dark), chairs made from snowboards, bikes hanging in the air..oh, and they serve up some mighty fine ale. I enjoyed the honey bitter.
As the place is pretty tough to describe I’ll let my pics do the talking.

If you find yourself strolling the streets of Budapest, take a turn on Kazinczy St. and look for the Szimpla.
Have you tried Hungarian Fanta and compared it to ours or to other European varieties ?
Love it, what an idea! We’ll visit Budapest again for sure.
Thanks for the comments. Ed – my son Kasm had a Fanta at a very posh bistro just a couple hours ago. Was pretty tasty – but the Mrs. & I preferred our Brut.
