Magog, Quebec – Wonderful Countryside Escape

Only an hour and a bit outside of Montreal lies the tranquil  little town of Magog, Quebec. We spent the week enjoying the countryside fresh air, hiking, biking, canoeing and let’s not forget relaxing by the lake and the good food! Then there were the ravaging deer flies which we could have lived without  (this was just on a particular hike but seriously yikes!), but from our terrific host to the charming town – it really is a great place to escape the city for a few days.

We took a few trips over the summer to test out some gear, our new bags, build reputation on travel/lodging sites and of-course, enjoy some family time.

Let’s start with AirBnB, a great experience with booking, ease of finding the right style of place, really friendly host and no hiccups at all. Adding to the experience was that the place didn’t include a washing machine, which was perfect as it gave us a chance to test our clothes washing skills. Apparently Bruce needs some work in that department ;-). Here’s the actual spot we stayed at and if you’re planning a trip to Magog you can’t go wrong with a stay here. Mind you, you’d need a car or be an avid cyclist as it’s too far from town for walking.

The city of Magog is in the heart of the eastern townships on Lake Memphremagog with a bustling downtown core lined with many little shops and restaurants. You won’t have to walk far to find yourself at Baie-de-Magog park. You can walk along the pretty boardwalk or take a dip in the chilly waters of the lake at one of the beaches. Bruce & Kasm enjoyed going for a little swim while Mama decided to enjoy the sun. If water and sun-bathing aren’t your thing then perhaps you would enjoy a bike ride on the Green Route or just a simple walk along the boardwalk.

Let’s not forget the food. We are always in the hunt for delicious food and Magog did not fail us. Our host recommended a fish and chips restaurant and I must admit it was one of the best we have ever had. Chez Sirano is on Rue Principale. You can’t miss it! From the strangely dressed mannequin sitting on a bench in-front of the restaurant to the eclectic interior this place makes you feel welcomed and you will leave with a big smile and happy belly!

This trip covered everything we needed and wanted. From different outdoor activities to chilling at the cottage by the lake to some good food. We couldn’t ask for more! And it was a good test to see how we can travel with just one bag each.  If you are travelling in Quebec, we highly recommend a trip to Magog! Happy Travelling.
