Day 1- Reykjavik, Iceland

Day 1 finally arrived! We’ve only been talking about doing this for 2 years 😉

We are going to try and post a little update daily along with longer posts on various locations and activities.

Where should I start… Well, Wow Airline does actually exist. Overall it wasn’t too bad. Don’t expect anything but a seat on a plane to get you from one location to the next. Of course, we were lucky enough to have the ONLY baby on board behind us 😉

Don’t get me wrong, we love babies. Ours was a baby at one point so I know it’s not easy travelling with them. Honestly the baby wasn’t that bad. He slept most of the time. The parents annoyed me more than anything. I had a knee pushed into my back the whole 5 hours we were on the plane and not to mention the chair grab every time he got up. Breath in… Breath out.. I survived!

Oh and then there were the chatty passengers who did not shut up the whole flight! seriously! what do you talk about for 5 hours straight !

But all that aside, our arrival to Iceland was very smooth. We got through customs in matter of minutes. They didn’t ask us any questions!! We took Flybus into town which was pretty awesome. The landscape we drove through was out of this world. You would have thought we landed on the moon. We drove through lava fields and it was just stunning. We look forward to making some stops on our way back to the airport and exploring it more since we will have a rental car.

We checked into our Airbnb apartment early and took a nice long, badly needed nap before heading out to explore the city. Our apartment is walking distance to everything yet it’s tucked away in a quiet residential area.

We walked the Laugavegur & Skólavörðustígur streets which are lined with shops and restaurants. It looks like a cute ski village. Weather isn’t the best. It’s about 10c and drizzle but hey we are in Iceland, no complaints !

We had brunch at Laundromat cafe! It’s a pretty cool place. You can get your laundry done, get a bite to eat and browse their large selection of books. If you are visiting Iceland, I highly recommend it, even if it’s just to get a cup of coffee. We had breakfast which I must say ain’t cheap!

Fancy a coffee and a good book and perhaps you need to get your laundry done same time?

Afterwards we made out way to the Harpa concert hall. Wow! What a cool building!

We finished the walk by strolling along the boardwalk to the viking ship sculpture and back to our apartment to chill a bit before heading out for groceries. That’s one of the great things about renting apartments, we get to make our own food and it saves us a ton! It may be cheap to get here but once you are here… ouch, $20 for fried eggs/toast and bacon!

Now we all have our noses in our electronics. Hopefully the chef will get to work soon and make us the lamb we got for supper. Well we think it’s lamb! Our Icelandic is a little rusty.

Perhaps if we don’t fall sleep and the rain gives us a break, we’ll head out again for more exploring.

À demain and stay tuned for a more detailed article on Reykjavik.
