A Beer in Budapest

I’ve been to a decent amount of pubs in my time – love them so much that I owned part of one for a few years. When I walk into a place, look around and think ‘holy cow – this is one weird joint’, you know it’s going to be off the wall. The Szimpla Pub in Budapest is one of the wackiest I’ve seen.

If you want a beer in Budapest (which is a pretty awesome town by the by), head over to the Szimpla, known as a Ruins Pub. What they do is simply find an abandoned space and fill it to the rafters will oddities. The vibe is quite eclectic. There was a dead PC room with a pile of 90s computers & screens hanging from the ceiling (sorry pics were too dark), chairs made from snowboards, bikes hanging in the air..oh, and they serve up some mighty fine ale. I enjoyed the honey bitter.

As the place is pretty tough to describe I’ll let my pics do the talking.

Szimpla Bar – Is that a stuffed bear up in the ceiling?

Wouldn’t want to bump into this fellow after a few too many.

If you find yourself strolling the streets of Budapest, take a turn on Kazinczy St. and look for the Szimpla.

Thanks for the comments. Ed – my son Kasm had a Fanta at a very posh bistro just a couple hours ago. Was pretty tasty – but the Mrs. & I preferred our Brut.

[…] We are out exploring the Jewish quarter in Budapest and the plan was to go back to Kazinczy St. and try the food Karavan we had noticed next to Szimpla Kert Ruin Pub. If you are visiting Budapest, be sure to put this place on your must-see-list! Check out Bruce’s photos here. […]

[…] The Next day, we thought we’d take it easy as our feet were sore from the beating we gave them. It helped that it was pouring rain and we couldn’t really get an early start! Once Mother Nature gave us a break from the downpour, we headed out to check the Zsimpla which was one of the coolest pubs we’ve ever been to.  […]
